2. get / become + 形容詞 と「比較級 and 比較級」

2-1. get / become + 形容詞 の基本

まずは、基本の文から確認します。

• Jack is getting tall.
  ジャックはだんだん背が高くなっている。
• She is becoming more beautiful.
  彼女はますます美しくなっています。

get 形容詞 / become 形容詞 は、「～になる」という変化を表す表現です。進行形にすることで、
「今まさに変化の途中である」ことが強調されます。

• is getting + 形容詞 … 「だんだん～になってきている」
• is becoming + 形容詞 … 「ますます～になってきている」

2-2. 比較級 and 比較級：どんどん・ますます ～になる

「どんどん背が高くなっている」「ますますきれいになっている」のように、変化の度合いが増していくことを表したいとき、
比較級 and 比較級 を使います。

短い形容詞の場合：

• tall → taller and taller
  Jack is getting taller and taller.
  ジャックはどんどん背が高くなっている。
• short → shorter and shorter
  The days are getting shorter and shorter.
  日がどんどん短くなってきている。

長い形容詞の場合：

• beautiful → more and more beautiful
• interesting → more and more interesting
• difficult → more and more difficult

次の例を見てください。

• The math classes became difficult.
  数学の授業が難しくなっている。
• The math classes became more and more difficult.
  数学の授業がだんだん難しくなってきた。

2-3. 比較級 and 比較級 / more and more の書き方ルール

まとめると、次のように覚えると整理しやすくなります。

• 短い形容詞（1音節中心）
  • tall → taller and taller
  • short → shorter and shorter
  • old → older and older
• 長い形容詞（2音節以上）
  • beautiful → more and more beautiful
  • famous → more and more famous
  • important → more and more important

短い形容詞の場合は、原級を2回書く感覚で「比較級 and 比較級」にします。
長い形容詞の場合は、原級は1回だけ書き、「more and more + 形容詞」にします。

3. “one of the” の基本イメージと注意点

3-1. “one of the” とは何か

英語の “one of the” は、
「～の中の一人（ひとつ）」という意味を表す表現です。

イメージ：

• 何人か / 何個かのグループがある
• その中から「一人・一つ」を取り出している

例えば、学校で背の高い男の子が何人かいて、そのうちの誰か、という状況を表したいとき：

Jack Adams is one of the tallest guys in the school.
ジャック・アダムズは、その学校で一番背が高い男の子たちのうちの一人だ。

ここで、重要なポイントが2つあります。

• “one of the” のあとは必ず複数形
  • guys（男の子たち）
  • students（生徒たち）
  • cities（都市の数々） など
• 「一番背が高いグループ」のうちの一人というニュアンスがある

3-2. “one of” + 所有格 + 複数名詞

“one of the” と並んでよく使うのが、

• one of + 所有格 + 複数名詞

例えば：

• John Smith is one of my classmates.
  ジョン・スミスは私のクラスメートの一人だ。

ここでは最上級は出てきませんが、「one of + 複数形」という点は同じです。

• “one of” のあとは、所有格でも the でも名詞は必ず複数形

4. “one of the + 最上級 + 複数名詞” の形

4-1. 典型的な形と意味

「～の中で最も…な人たちのうちの一人だ」と言いたいときに使うのが、
one of the + 最上級 + 複数名詞 です。

パターン：

• 主語 + be動詞 + one of the + 最上級 + 複数名詞 + 場所・グループ

例文：

• Jack Adams is one of the tallest guys in the school.
  ジャック・アダムズは、その学校で一番背が高い男の子たちのうちの一人だ。
• Tokyo is one of the largest cities in the world.
  東京は、世界で最も大きな都市のひとつだ。
• This book is one of the most interesting books I have ever read.
  この本は、私がこれまで読んだ本の中で最も面白い本のひとつだ。

4-2. 「one of the 最上級」周りでよくあるミス

特にテストで出やすい間違いは、次のようなものです。

• 名詞を単数にしてしまう
  • ✕ Jack is one of the tallest guy in the school.
  • ○ Jack is one of the tallest guys in the school.
• 最上級を忘れてしまう
  • ✕ one of the tall guys
  • ○ one of the tallest guys

入試では、the のあとに 最上級 + 複数名詞 がそろっているかをしっかり確認しましょう。
