theyはdo？does？現在形の否定文【Book1 Lesson7-2】
theyの否定文ではdo notを使います。一方、he、she、his sisterのような三人称単数では、does notを使います。
どちらの場合も、do notまたはdoes notの後ろに続く動詞は原形です。そのため、does not likesではなく、does not likeとします。

theyの否定文はdo notを使う
theyは複数を表す主語なので、現在形の否定文ではdoes notではなくdo notを使います。
They do not play badminton every day.
彼らは毎日バドミントンをしません。
theyは三人称ですが、単数ではありません。doesを使うのは、三人称の中でも主語が単数のときです。
- ○ They do not play badminton.
- × They does not play badminton.
「三人称だからdoes」と考えるのではなく、三人称単数ならdoes、複数ならdoと判断しましょう。
do notとdoes notは主語で使い分ける
一般動詞の現在形を否定文にするときは、主語を見てdo notまたはdoes notを選びます。

I・we・you・theyはdo not
I、we、you、theyの否定文では、すべてdo not + 動詞の原形を使います。
I do not have a cell phone.
私は携帯電話を持っていません。
I do not like baseball.
私は野球が好きではありません。
We do not have school in summer.
私たちは夏には学校がありません。
You do not have your book on your desk.
最後の文は、直訳すると「あなたはあなたの机の上にあなたの本を持っていません」となります。場面によっては、「机の上に本が出ていませんよ」と読む方が自然です。
日本語訳は場面によって変わることがありますが、英文の形は主語 + do not + 動詞の原形です。
he・she・his sisterはdoes not
he、she、it、his sisterのように、一人または一つを表す三人称単数では、does not + 動詞の原形を使います。
His sister does not like math.
彼の姉、または妹は数学が好きではありません。
his sisterは一人の人を表すため、三人称単数です。そのため、do notではなくdoes notを使います。

does not likesではなくdoes not likeになる理由
三人称単数の肯定文では、一般動詞に三単現のsをつけます。
His sister likes math.
彼の姉、または妹は数学が好きです。
この文を否定文にするときは、主語が三人称単数なのでdoes notを置きます。三単現の働きはdoesが受け持つため、後ろの動詞は原形のlikeに戻します。

肯定文を否定文に書き換える方法
肯定文から否定文へ書き換えるときは、次の順番で確認します。
- 主語が三人称単数かどうかを見る
- do notまたはdoes notを選ぶ
- 後ろの動詞を原形にする

否定文を書いたあとは、次の2点を確認しましょう。
- 主語に合ったdo notまたはdoes notを使っているか
